A white cotton t-shirt is probably a bad analogy for life, but having been in a similar situation in the past, I can say that trying to forget and move on from your divorce — while possible — is like trying to remove a stubborn stain from your white cotton clothing. You can remove quite a bit over time but not completely.
But you know what, with more “stains” put on by more welcome life events, including a new love, that old stain from your first marriage will get unnoticed among all the others, especially since they are newer and less faded. Later in life, when you have a good look at your cotton t-shirt, I doubt you’ll remember which stain marked which spill and splatter. Even if you do, you can always smear ketchup over it. 😋
