Great piece — two thumbs up! I think the same can be said about “good” words that can turn ugly and profane. It’s not just the context but also the tone in which they’re uttered, isn’t it? It works in sarcasm. The francophones might agree. Take the French word for tabernacle or chalice. At least in French-speaking parts of Canada (not just Quebec), those are common words I heard use as swear words, and they sounded really crude despite being “holy” terms, too. And — ouch! I just spilled hot coffee onto my lap. Heavenly hot chalice!
