I had a related experience recently on Threads. Someone posted a fun prompt: Name one thing France contributed to the world. I read as many responses before I posted mine. I found all the expected ones about food, famous people, places, science, philosophy, technology, law, etc. I wasn’t trying to be nasty when I posted : Systematic oppression of colonized territories. My interest in Vietnam’s history reminded me, I guess. lol
Then, I got a reply: You gave us bird flu and coronavirus. hahahahahahaha
Aaaaand that probably explains hate crimes against random East and Southeast Asians, particularly in the US. Korean and Vietnamese women (to name a few) became such victims if memory serves me well.
