The thought that your piece inspired in me is that we all want to avoid getting hurt (again) and feeling pain. (That's why big pharma is raking in billions.)

But there is value in the hurt and pain. The following is a weak analogy but here goes: Being in love is also like snowboarding. (I snowboard.) You feel the exhilaration of coasting down the slope effortlessly and enjoying your view of the perfect blue sky, snow-topped trees, and the pretty/handsome/sexy partner gracefully snowboarding with you. And you might crash into each other. Shock is followed by pain, then anger, then calming down (but maybe still pissed off), then laughter, and hopefully kiss-n-makeup (in the snow and later in the sheets). Then, that love rekindles when you both go out and get a new set of snowboards after damaging your last one from the crash...or quit the sport altogether and start skydiving. Haha. I don't know. I'm making this up as I go.
