I have lived and worked, mostly as a school teacher of English and science, in Japan, Canada, Australia, China, and Taiwan in that chronological order. I took time off from teaching during the pandemic (late 2020-2024) and became a science communicator, writing research-focused press releases at Kyoto University. That is the period I began writing more on Medium. After three years of feeling choked and lacking purpose under poor leadership, I became an anthropology student (of all things) in the Austronesian Studies doctoral program at a Taiwanese national university. However, after nearly completing all but one of my required courses, life forced me to return to Japan and to classroom teaching. Life is a bully.

I joined Medium in early 2022 with a single story about becoming an English teacher, but stayed silent, lurking in the shadows, until September. I returned with "I'm Ready To Die -- But Wait!", which became a short series of unrelated stories touching on the topic of living life while being mindful of death.

Since then, I have ventured into poetry, horror stories, societal commentaries, humour, scientific research, and positive reflections on life in general. I expect to write more on each of these genres and maybe try different ones. My main purpose is to keep writing and make connections with like-minded writers.

As of 18 June 2025, I have met kindred (and awesome-cool) souls on this platform, who have inspired and encouraged me to keep writing. I make close to no money here, but I'm staying because of such connections.

Now, in 2026, I am writing much less than before as I am preoccupied with my teaching jobs and personal projects, such as launching an online Japanese and ESL support service, and planning an 8-day Buddhist temple pilgrimage in Shikoku, Japan. I am considering starting a series on that topic soon.

I'm also into photography--I use my Fuji XT-30, Sony ZV1, and iPhone 11--and drawing, which relaxes me after I overdose on coffee.
